When it comes to exercise, people usually think about sports. If you’re not good at sports then you probably aren’t inspired to exercise. Exercise is more than just sports, it’s actually any activity that gets you moving. If you aren’t into any physical activities right now, you are missing out on many of the benefits they bring. Not only will you get a healthier body, you’ll get a big brain boost which will help you do better in school.

The Benefits

A few of the many benefits exercise can bring you are:
  • Increased concentration
  • Improved problem solving skills
  • Superior memory
  • Happier mood
  • More energy
  • Less stress
  • Better sleep

Start out Small

If you would like to reap the mental benefits of exercising but don’t have a great condition or an idea of where to begin, here’s a tip: start with a small goal. Don’t make yourself try to run a mile if you get tired after a minute of jogging. Start small and walk for 20 minutes or for a bit longer if you can. Setting small and easy to achieve goals will help you stay motivated and even just a minimal amount of movement will reflect on your scores at school.

Study While You Move

Complicated movements can stimulate your brain, so if your teacher allows you to, walking around or moving your hands while you’re in class can help you learn better. To some people even just standing on their feet helps. If your teacher isn’t pro movement, try some active-learning activities at home. Jump rope and recite vocabulary definitions or spelling words. Toss a ball around while you’re studying for a test or listen to an audiobook while you walk or do some chores.

Stick to It

You already started just by considering exercising to boost your brain power. Commit to it and start with 3 days of exercise a week and you’ll soon find that you’re actually enjoying it.
